Sporting Clays Shoot fundraiser on May 9

Participants take aim at clay targets during a previous Buttonwood Nature Center Sporting Clay Shoot Fundraiser at Orvis Hill Country Shooting Grounds. This year’s event is on Friday, May 9.

WAYNESBORO – Buttonwood Nature Center is hosting a Sporting Clays Shoot fundraiser on Friday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Orvis Hill Country Shooting Grounds in Fairfield, Pennsylvania.

A fundraiser for Buttonwood, the event includes morning refreshments, safety instructions, ear and eye protection gear, 15 outdoor shooting stations with 100 clay targets, water and snacks, and a catered lunch.

“This is our third year hosting this exciting event,” said Jessica Watson, Buttonwood’s assistant director and event coordinator. “This is a chance to get outside, test your sportsman skills, and have fun while supporting Buttonwood Nature Center.”

The 15-station course at Orvis Hill Country takes advantage of the topography of the region with panoramic 10-mile views at some of the stations. Groups of four or five rotate through the stations and are challenged by a diversity of clay target presentations.

Orvis Hill will award trophies for first, second and third place winners. The registration fee is $125 per person and is open to those age 18 or older.

Participants may bring their own shotgun and ammunition. Orvis Hill Country has a limited supply of shotguns to rent, and ammunition can be purchased in the club house. A limited number of golf carts are also available to rent.

Buttonwood will sell raffle and 50/50 tickets at the event.

The fundraiser is underwritten in part by lead sponsors The Eagles Club of Waynesboro and The Owls Club of Waynesboro, and station sponsors Fortunate Son Enterprises, Honey Bee Auto Sales, Farrar’s Gunsmith, Hammer Down Customs, Country Sealcoatings & Paving, and American Custom Auto Care. Additional support by Today’s Horizon Fund Contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; the late Alma W. Oyer; Marge Kiersz; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
