WAYNESBORO – The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro will host its second annual Destination JAZZ event on Saturday, April 26, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School auditorium, 550 E. Second St.
Headlining this year’s festival is the renowned jazz septet The Cookers, featuring Eddie Henderson, David Weiss, Azar Lawrence, Craig Handy, George Cables, Cecil McBee and Billy Hart. Known for their explosive post-bop sound and described as “a dream team” by The New York Times, The Cookers will take the stage at 7 p.m.
The event will open with performances by the Waynesboro Area Senior High Jazz Band and the Chambersburg Area Senior High School Jazz Band, starting at 4:30 p.m. Both groups will showcase local student talent under the direction of Christopher Ritter and Nicole Albright.
The Cookers bring decades of experience to the stage, with members who have played alongside jazz legends like Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis and Art Blakey. Celebrating their sixth album “Look Out!,” the group continues to push boundaries with their dynamic sound.
Tickets are $10 in advance through April 12 and $20 starting April 13. Students can attend for $10. Free parking is available on-site. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door (cash only). For inquiries, email [email protected].
Additionally, a free concert by the Steve Rudolph Trio will take place on Friday, April 25, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Gallery 50/Music Makers in Waynesboro. Donations are encouraged.
Proceeds from Destination JAZZ support the nonprofit Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro’s mission to promote arts and culture in the community year-round.
