Fly a kite event scheduled at Buttonwood

Kids and adults enjoyed flying colorful kites during a past Buttonwood Kite Fly. This year’s event is set for Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. adjacent to Hooverville Elementary School.

WAYNESBORO – Celebrate National Kite Month with Buttonwood Nature Center’s annual Kite Fly on Saturday, April 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the field adjacent to Hooverville Elementary School. There is no fee for flying, and everyone is welcome. Participants should bring their own kites.

Brothers George and Sam Adams of Chambersburg return this year as “kite masters” and will offer free individual instruction, demonstrations of kite flying techniques and a kite-making workshop.

“We hope kids and adults will stop by and build their own kite. It is fun to do, and these small handmade kites really fly well,” Sam Adams said. There is a $1 donation to cover materials.

Those attending can enter a raffle drawing for a free butterfly kite. The raffle is free to enter, one entry per person. The drawing is at 2 p.m., and you need not be present to win.

The Kite Fly is underwritten by Buchanan Auto Park with additional support by Today’s Horizon Fund contributors: The Nora Roberts Foundation; Marge Kiersz; APX Enclosures; Don Gibe and Nancy Erlanson; and the family of the late Carolyn Terry Eddy, with daughters Connie Fleagle & Kim Larkin.
