WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP— A comprehensive ban on all open burning in Washington Township, Franklin County, will take effect on Monday, March 10. Township officials have announced that violators of this ban may face fines of up to $1,000.
This decision comes amid growing concerns about fire safety in the region. The Franklin Fire Company has issued a stern warning against burning for the upcoming days, citing favorable conditions for fire spread. The fire company’s spokesperson highlighted the forecast of sunny skies, windy conditions, and temperatures reaching 70°F as factors contributing to the increased fire risk.
The urgency of the situation is underscored by recent fire incidents in the county. Firefighters have already contained one blaze in the South Mountain area, while another significant fire continues to rage in Lurgan Township. The ongoing “mountain fire” at 13545 Forge Hill Road has prompted West End Fire & Rescue to advise residents to steer clear of the area until further notice.
Local fire officials stress the importance of community cooperation during this high-risk period. Residents are strongly encouraged to refrain from any burning activities and to remain vigilant about potential fire hazards in their surroundings.
As the region faces these challenging conditions, authorities are working diligently to prevent further incidents and protect both property and natural resources. The ban on open burning serves as a crucial measure to mitigate the risk of wildfires during this vulnerable time.
