SNIFF NOTES: Second chance fund saves lives at CVAS

I was reminded this week how much this shelter works to help the animals who come in to us.

We have had two cats who needed help from our Second Chance Fund, both of whom are up for adoption right now.

Our Second Chance Fund is money that we set aside for animals who come into us with special needs. Sometimes we have strays come through our doors that have all kinds of problems, from injuries to internal damage, to over-the-top infections.

As a result, sometimes they are in need of surgery that requires more than the typical spaying and neutering that we do.

That’s what happened with Tinsel.

She came into us with a bad eye infection. We treated her, but her left eye just wasn’t healing. Our vet decided it would be better for her to have it removed, so it wouldn’t cause even worse damage to her system.

Tinsel is a beautiful, young, gray-and-white girl who is just the sweetest soul. Despite the fact that she lost her left eye, it doesn’t slow her down one bit.

The love in this girl is amazing. When you pick her up, she’ll rub against your chin. She really is the definition of resilient. Whoever takes her home will be one lucky human.

Lovie is a tortie cat who is about three years old. When she came into us, she had a mass on her stomach. Our vet took a look and decided it would be best to see what was going on inside her, and we got her ready for surgery.

The vet discovered a hernia in a very unusual place. The hernia was fixed and Lovey came through the surgery with flying colors.

She’s now ready to find her forever home and be spoiled like she deserves.

Both of these surgeries were funded by our Second Chance Fund. We’ve had cats and dogs who needed amputations and ear surgeries and even special medications.

We were able to help them because of the people who helped us by donating to our Second Chance Fund. If you would like to help other babies like Tinsel and Lovie, please consider donating today.

I also have to mention one more sweet baby who required special attention, but not really from our Second Chance Fund.

Bear Bear is a Miniature Poodle mix who is about 9 months old. He needed the have a hair cut when he came into us, and he also happens to be completely deaf and blind in one eye.

This little guy may have a lot to deal with, but oh my word, what a darling. He is just the cutest fellow. He actually hops like a deer in a room.

He loves people and laps, especially.

His eyes are a little discolored, and he definitely can’t hear a thing and will require someone very special to take him home, but he has the sweetest personality, and we know he will find the right spot.

At CVAS, we give every animal every chance we can to find their forever home. We work hard every day to provide shelter, love and care for the babies in our kennels.

No two minutes are the same working at CVAS, but the love we have for our babies never changes.

If you or someone you know is looking for a four-legged companion, we sure have some sweet animals in our kennels who will make someone a best friend for life.

Stop out and see – I know you won’t be disappointed.
