In January, Franklin County employees supported She’s Somebody’s Daughter through the county’s monthly “dress down” fundraiser. Approximately 150 employees from 21 departments raised $750 for the nonprofit in honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
On Wednesday, Franklin County Commissioners; Keri Kenney, Franklin County human resources coordinator; and Michelle Garber, accreditation training coordinator at the Franklin County Jail, presented the donation to Rose Davis, She’s Somebody’s Daughter interim executive director, and Sue Sellers, assistant program director.
According to the group’s Facebook page, during 2024, the organization:
- Reached out to over 100 women, meeting and supporting them at strip clubs, motels, massage businesses, homeless encampments, drug and alcohol rehab facilities and county prisons.
- Taught over 500 students, faculty and community members at local high schools, Penn State and Messiah Universities, churches and civic organizations using our “Take a Walk in Their Shoes simulation and Human Trafficking (HT) 101 presentation.
- Led “Ending the Game,” a survivor-written curriculum, to empower survivors to understand and uproot harmful psychological coercion.
- Collaborated with the Dauphin County Human Trafficking Task Force to deliver human trafficking awareness training to county-wide probation officers.
- Delivered human trafficking awareness and “Take a Walk in Their Shoes” as part of crisis intervention training to Pennsylvania State Police cadets.
