5 things to do this weekend

Get Jammin’. The Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro is hosting its annual “Jammin’ for the ARTS!” event on Sunday Feb. 23 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Trigger’s Table & Taproom. This four-hour festival aims to keep the arts alive in Waynesboro and will feature music on two stages from six local bands. The event will showcase a variety of musical styles, along with beer, food, artist demonstrations, raffles, and artwork for sale. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Arts Alliance, which has been supporting the community through the arts since 2012.

Get ready to laugh. The Star Theatre in Mercersburg, will host Comedy Pet Theatre on Friday, Feb. 21, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. This show, presented by Gregory Popovich, features humor and European physical comedy, showcasing the talents of over 30 rescued animals, including dogs, cats, parrots, a miniature horse, and even a mini pig. Gregory Popovich, who has performed in 25 countries and appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “Animal Planet” and “America’s Got Talent,” also holds the title of having the “most beloved family show” in Las Vegas. Tickets for the event can be purchased at startheatrepa.com or by calling 717-220-3318.

Have “Wicked” fun. “Wicked” will be shown at the Waynesboro Theatre Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m.. In honor of the showing, the businesses of downtown Waynesboro have planned a “Wicked”-themed bingo game. This is a free event where participants can pick up a bingo card at 30 E Main St. between 2-5 p.m. on Saturday and follow the directions on the back. Participants will need to visit participating businesses in downtown Waynesboro, so comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate attire are recommended. Upon getting bingo, participants can return their bingo card to Mason Dixon Creations to be entered to win prizes, including a $50 gift card that can be used at multiple businesses in downtown Waynesboro.

Support the arts. The Cumberland Valley School of Music in Chambersburg is hosting “A Little Night Music,” a black and white ball, on Saturday, Feb. 22, from 5:30 to 11 p.m. This annual Dinner Dance & Auction, benefiting the school, will take place at the Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg. Guests can participate in silent and live auctions, and the dress code is black tie optional. The evening includes a prosecco welcome, hors d’oeuvres served by butlers, and complimentary wine and beer. For those unable to attend in person, virtual bidding with instant checkout is available. Music for dinner and dancing will be provided by the award-winning, 10-piece Central City Orchestra.

Start your garden. This weekend, the Washington County Free Library in Hagerstown is hosting a variety of events for both adults and children. The Hagerstown Homesteaders, a monthly gardening club, will meet to teach participants how to grow food from scratch, harvest and preserve it, and cook meals on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. at the Hagerstown library. Additionally, in recognition of International Polar Bear Day, the library will host a polar bear story time at 11 a.m. on Saturday to raise awareness about polar bear conservation at the Smithsburg branch. The event will feature stories, crafts and information about polar bears. International Polar Bear Day is an annual event celebrated every February to coincide with the time period when polar bear mothers and cubs are sleeping in their dens.
