Mrs. Patricia “Pat” Souders Garling, 78, of Waynesboro, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in WellSpan York Hospital. Born June 8, 1946 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Paul W. and Mae Elizabeth “Betty” (Nelson) Souders.
Pat Garling was a graduate from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1964.
She and her husband, Garry L. Garling, were married August 21, 1966 in Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro, PA.
In her early life, Pat was employed at Cold Springs Park where she met Garry, the love of her life. She also worked for Waynesboro Knitting Mill, Newberry’s Store, and Waynesboro Shoe Factory. She later volunteered as a teacher’s aide for the Waynesboro Area School District.
In April 2023, they moved to Quincy Village Charter House. They celebrated their 58 years of marriage at Quincy Village with their beloved family and friends. During their time together at Quincy, they participated in the Tuesday night buffets, Bingo, Thursday morning hymn sings, along with many other activities. They enjoyed an active social life and a network of renewed & new friendships which enriched their lives with a caring and loving extended family.
She was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church where she taught children and adults for more than 20 years and held various positions in the church. She volunteered with Bible Adventure, an after-school Bible release program, offered through Camp Joy El.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Tammy Bayer and her husband, John of Chambersburg, PA, Laura Engel and her husband, Rob and Cindy Decker and her husband, Lauren all of Blue Ridge Summit, PA; three grandchildren, Sara Mae Holden, Nathan Decker, and Levi Engel; two sisters, Emily Mort and Lillie West of Waynesboro, PA; two brothers, George Souders of Leitersburg, MD and David Souders of Waynesboro, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Connie R. Souders and one brother, Paul N. Souders.
