Sandra “Sandi” M. Baksi, Ph.D. age 67 of Chambersburg, PA passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Chambersburg Hospital after a courageous five year battle with metastatic esophageal cancer. Born August 17, 1957, in Harrisburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Dolores (Shinko) Baksi.

Sandi received her graduate degree from University of Maryland in 1986, after receiving her Master’s Degree from Rutgers University in Camden NJ., as well as her undergraduate degree from Cook College, Rutgers University. She went on to enjoy a fulfilling career at the EPA as a marine biologist for over 15 years. Full of life even during her illness, Sandi was an avid spokesman and advocate for the CARE Center at Penn State Cancer Center in Hershey PA, which is a wonderful support center for cancer patients and their families. Sandi had enjoyed volunteering at other organizations in the community over the years that she held close to her heart, including Capital Area Therapeutic Riding Association (CATRA) in Grantville, PA as well as Forgotten Cats in Willow Grove, PA. Sandi loved gardening, especially raising succulents and growing native plants, and sitting next to her beloved koi pond. More than anything else, Sandi loved being “Mame” to her grandchildren and jumped at every opportunity to be around them.

Surviving is her husband, Michael “Mike” Fagan; three children, Michael R. Clarke (wife Bethany) of Thomasville, PA, Evan S. Fagan (wife Stephanie) of Kingman, AZ, and Cali A. Newcomer (husband Michael) of Shippensburg, PA; brother, Gary Baksi (wife Beth), and her five adored grandchildren, Rose, Emma, Braxton, Greyson, and Brooklynn.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life on Thursday, October 17, 2024, from 3-6 PM at Grayce Gardens, 51 Plasterer Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sandi’s name to the CARE Center at Penn State Health University Development, 500 University Drive, Hershey, PA 17033 – placing the following in the memo line: Kristen Olewine Milke CARE Center donation in memory | honor of Sandi Baksi or online at https://www.pennstatehealth.org/giving.
