Mr. Daniel Ray Nazelrod, Sr., 98, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024, in the Williamsport Retirement Village, Williamsport, MD.

Born August 17, 1925 in Thomas, WV, he was the son of the late Edward D. and Emma M. (Cook) Nazelrod.

He lived his early life in Paw Paw, WV, attending Paw Paw High School.

Mr. Nazelrod served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946. He served in the European Theater during World War II, as a Seaman First Class.

He and his wife, the late Macil Irene (Twigg) Nazelrod, were married on January 7, 1944 in Cumberland, MD. They had enjoyed 71 years together, when Macil passed away on August 4, 2015.

In his early years, Daniel worked at Fairchild Aircraft, then Pangborn Corp, Hagerstown. He retired from Fleetwood Industries, Williamsport, in 1983, where he worked as a cabinet maker.

He was a member of the Wayside Baptist Church, Hagerstown, MD, where he served as an usher for many years.

Mr. Nazelrod enjoyed woodworking and going to flea markets.

He is survived by two children: a daughter, Jacque L. Fahnestock of Leitersburg, MD and a son, Daniel Ray Nazelrod, Jr., of St. Thomas, PA; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie Icks and Shirley Hanlin; two brothers, Richard L. Nazelrod and Ellis A. Nazelrod; a half-sister, Ruby E. Stevens; and a half-brother, V.A. Wolford.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. Waynesboro, PA, with Pastor Jeremy Kitchen officiating. Burial will follow in Quincy Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the honor guard of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Thursday afternoon, in the funeral home.
