Rita Maria Shoup, age 81, of Greencastle, PA passed away at home on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Born June 21, 1942, in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Elizabeth (Finfrock) Gilbert, stepdaughter to Evelyn (Bryan) Gilbert.
Rita was a 1960 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School and had been named “Miss GAHS” her senior year of school. She married her husband, Gary Shoup, on July 14, 1962. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an ardent lover of Christmas and filled the holiday with special memories for her family.
Rita is survived by her husband, Gary, daughters, Dana Shoup of Derwood, MD, Laurie Boyd (husband Harold) of Gulfport, MS, Holly Meyers (husband Kent) of Chambersburg, PA and her beloved granddaughters, Amber and Brooke Meyers of Chambersburg, PA.
Funeral services and interment will be private and will be arranged by Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, Inc. Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rita’s name to the Jerome R. King Playground Association, P.O. Box 2, Greencastle, PA 17225.
