CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Downtown Chambersburg Inc. officials have announced the opening of the third round of the Business Improvement Microgrant program. The program is designed to galvanize small businesses within Chambersburg’s designated Historic District.
Current business owners and property owners within historic downtown Chambersburg may apply for matching grants of up to $5,000.
DCI administers the program, which is funded by Main Street Matters, a program of the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development. Program goals include expanding access to funding for downtown busiiness owners, driving local investment and enhancing the downtown as an ideal location to conduct business and invite tourism.
The first two rounds of the Business Improvement Microgrant program have distributed over $45,000 to downtown Chambersburg businesses, funding projects like marketing and promotion activity; structural or interior improvements; and technological and connectivity improvements.
“Small businesses are a vital part of what makes downtown Chambersburg unique, and investing in them helps keep our downtown thriving,” said Stephen Christian, president and executive director of the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce. “Through the first two rounds, these microgrants have helped local businesses bring new ideas to life and make improvements that strengthen our downtown.”
The application was made available on Nov. 5. It will remain open until funds are exhausted. DCI entreats applicants to apply by Dec. 18 for the best chance at receiving funding.
