MONT ALTO, Pa. — A 72-year-old Fayetteville man was killed Tuesday afternoon following a two-vehicle collision at an intersection in Mont Alto Borough, according to Pennsylvania State Police in Chambersburg.
State police identified the victim as Juan G. Martin, 72. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:07 p.m. at the intersection of South Main, North Main, Ash and Park streets. South Main and North Main streets carry State Route 997 through the borough.
According to a police crash report, Martin was driving a 1959 Austin-Healey Sprite northbound on South Main Street. A 2016 Toyota Corolla, operated by John W. Mason, 49, of Waynesboro, was traveling southbound on North Main Street simultaneously.
Investigators said the collision occurred when Martin attempted to make a left turn from South Main Street onto Ash Street. His Austin-Healey was struck by Mason’s Corolla.
Police said the Toyota struck the classic sports car at the 3 o’clock position. The force of the impact caused the Austin-Healey to spin before coming to rest on South Main Street. The Corolla continued southbound and came to an uncontrolled stop on the shoulder.
Martin suffered fatal injuries and was not transported to a hospital, police said. Mason sustained suspected minor injuries but was not transported for medical treatment.
The state police report did not indicate any charges would be filed. Mason was not charged, and the crash is under investigation.
Emergency personnel from Mont Alto Fire and EMS, as well as volunteer fire police, also responded to the scene.
