CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Chambersburg man faces 12 criminal charges after three children told police he struck them with a hammer while their hands were in a deep freezer, according to charging documents.
Evelio Wyatt Forbes, 50, was charged Wednesday after Chambersburg police received reports of the alleged abuse Tuesday, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The children told investigators Forbes would hit them if they did not answer his questions while their hands were in the freezer, the affidavit states. They also reported that he used a PVC pipe to strike them.
One child told investigators Forbes sexually assaulted them more than once, according to the affidavit.
Online court records list felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person younger than 16, statutory sexual assault, aggravated assault and corruption of minors. Forbes also faces misdemeanor simple assault charges.
Forbes was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kenneth Manns and taken to Franklin County Jail. Bail was set at $250,000, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 10.
