Charlotte Ann Vorhes Schimansky, 89, of Chambersburg, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Born May 24, 1937, in Washington, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Samuel and Klova Irene Hunt Vorhes.

Most of her life was shared between Washington and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, apart from the 9 years that she resided in Houston, Texas.

Charlotte attended Avella Senior High School, obtaining her General Education Degree in her later life. She was so very proud of getting her GED, as she had been unable to graduate with her class due to multiple medical issues and surgeries, excelling in her testing, over thirty-five years later without any preparation.

She also obtained her certification as a nursing assistant, providing loving care for others for more than 40 years.

Over a span of many years and two states, Charlotte had been employed at Mayview State Hospital; the Washington County Health Center; Kade Nursing Home; Memorial City General Hospital in the Oncology department; the McGovern Allergy Clinic; the former Piney Mountain Home (currently known as the Village of Laurel Run); and as an in-home caregiver until well into her later years. She had a servant heart as she cared for her many patients over her lifetime.

Charlotte had been a member of Five Forks Brethren in Christ where she attended services, enjoying worship until her health prevented her doing so.
She was also formerly a member of the Senior Citizen Centers in both Washington and Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; the Buffalo Grange, AARP, North Buffalo Presbyterian Church and numerous bowling leagues in Washington, Chambersburg and Houston through the years.

Crocheting, cross-stitching and knitting, houseplants and gardening, playing cards, Triominos and other board games all brought her joy,

Her flair for writing was evident and she was well known for sending cards of encouragement for every occasion. Charlotte never missed a birthday and called all of her immediate family to sing them birthday greetings.

Charlotte was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and took her football very seriously!

On March 8, 1955, she married Raymond Reeves Hoover, now deceased and on January 9, 1975, she married Nestor Robert Schimansky also deceased and whom she missed deeply.

Charlotte was predeceased by her parents; husbands; daughter, Doris Ann Hoover; granddaughter, Yesenia Aurora Rosales; great grandson, Antonio DeShawn Gibson; sister, Karen Elaine Hunter; and a brother, James “Blaine” Vorhes.

Surving are a son, Raymond Roy (the late Donna) Hoover of Oregon City, Oregon; a daughter Catherine Jane (Kenneth) Goetz of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; three brothers, Ralph (Barbara) Vorhes of Carlisle, Pa; Edison (Elaine) Vorhes of Washington, Pa; David (Skyla) Vorhes of Chambersburg, Pa.; a sister Norma Jean (Robert) Vankirk of Washington, Pa., nine grandchildren, Raymond Roy Hoover II; Quichea Hoover; Quentin Hoover; Thomas Hoover all of Oregon City, Oregon; Wayann Hoover, of Johnstown, Pa.; Dayne (Matthew) Hoover of Washington, Pa.; Margarita (Juan) Ramirez; Delia (William) Robertson; Angel (Norma) Valencia all of Chambersburg, Pa.; three step-grandchildren, Kristen (Leeann) Goetz of Hagerstown; Matthew (Haleigh) Goetz of Fannettsburg and Amanda Goetz of Chambersburg, Pa.; 13 great grandchildren and four step great grandchildren. Charlotte is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

One-hour visitation with the funeral service to immediately follow will be held Monday, October 26, from 12:30-2:30 pm at the Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg.

Graveside services will be celebrated the following day, Tuesday, October 27, at 1:00 pm at Buffalo Cemetery, 250 Buffalo Road South, Washington, Pennsylvania.
