David A. Rodney, age 81, of Waynesboro, PA, peacefully passed away on October 16, 2026, in his home, with his family beside him.

Born December 7, 1944, in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late James and Hilda (Liebhardt) Rodney.

Although David spent much of his life in the Baltimore area, he had fond memories of his early childhood growing up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Rock Hall, where he spent his summers crabbing in the flats of the Eastern Neck Narrows.

David served his country in the United States Navy from 1964-1968. On the USS Ingraham, he toured the Mediterranean with ports of call in Egypt, Gibraltar, and Tunisia, among others.

Later in life, he graduated from Towson University and went on to work for the Maryland Department of the Environment as an Air Quality Specialist. It was there that he met the love of his life, Susan (Rezsnyak) Rodney. David and Susan were married on March 12, 2005, in Catonsville, MD.

From his early childhood to his time in the Navy, David gained a great appreciation for nature, travel, adventure, and history. He raced sailboats with his friends and even hitchhiked across the U.S. from Baltimore to Alaska and back to Baltimore again. He had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and he will always be remembered for all his “old sayings” that made us smile.

David is survived by his loving wife, Susan A. Rodney; his stepchildren, Gerard P. Stone, Mark W. Stone (Jennifer), and Sarah J. Haines (Jason); his step-grandchildren, Erin Hansen, Andrew VanDerStuyf, Jr., Sydney Stone, Benjamin Stone, Anna Stone, Erik Stone, Olivia Haines, Samuel Stone, Christopher Stone, and Adaline Haines; his sister, Anita Paradise; and his nieces, Alaina Paradise, Katherine (Katie) Broom, and Katherine Rodney.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Edward, Richard, Raymond, and Michael Rodney. He was also preceded in death by his step-daughter, Holly McLeod.

Services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at 11:00 A.M. at the Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, 14205 Pleasant Valley Road NE, Flintstone, MD 21530. There will be a Celebration of Life Luncheon to follow at Puccini Restaurant in Cumberland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy at WaterLandLife.org/tribute.

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, PA is handling the arrangements.
