HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Motorists can expect the detour to run from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, through Sunday, Oct. 18, at 9 p.m. while workers install piping across all lanes of I-70 near Bower Avenue at the mile 27 marker near the I-81 interchange.
The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration said the installation and detour will occur, weather permitting.
Motorists traveling westbound on I-70 will be detoured at Exit 28 (MD 632/Downsville Pike). To access I-70 west and I-81 north and south, motorists will turn left from the exit and be guided onto MD 632 by a flagging operation.
Motorists will continue on MD 632 to the four-way stop at MD 632 and MD 68 (Lappens Road), then turn right onto MD 68. From there, motorists will continue toward I-81 past the intersection of MD 68 and Governor Lane Boulevard/Spielman Road.
Motorists seeking to access westbound I-70 will continue on northbound I-81 to Exit 4B and the ramp to westbound I-70.
Crews from Triton Construction, Inc. of St. Albans, West Virginia, will perform the drainpipe work. Advanced warning signs and flagging operations will guide motorists through the work zone.
The State Highway Administration is Serious About Safety. Pedestrians and motorists are urged to remain alert and avoid distractions when traveling through the work zone. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits. Motorists can dial #77 on their mobile devices for roadside assistance.
