Mrs. Ethel M. (Fritts) Fisher, 103, of Greencastle, PA, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Heritage Hills Retirement Home, Greencastle.
Born July 26, 1923, in Jefferson County, WV, she was the daughter of the late John Leonard and Ida (Wilt) Fritts.
She was a 1942 graduate of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia High School and a 1943 graduate of Hagerstown Business College.
She married Richard Lee Fisher on February 17, 1945, in Charlestown, West Virginia. They enjoyed 74 years together before Richard passed away, November 7, 2019.
Mrs. Fisher was employed as a secretary for the Gas Company, Hagerstown, MD and was secretary for the engineering dept at Fairchild Aircraft, Hagerstown.
She was a member of Grace United Church of Christ, Greencastle. In her younger years, Mrs. Fisher enjoyed bowling and placed first in woman’s bowling from 1979-1980. She was a four time nine-hole club champion at the Waynesboro Country Club, Waynesboro, PA, and even scored a hole in one on January 4, 1991, while staying in Florida for the winter. She was part of the Card Club and enjoyed square dancing. She was an active member of the community participating, the loyal daughters for old home week, and even made the chocolate syrup for the ice cream at Fishers News Agency Richard helped run.
She is survived by two grandchildren: Shawna M. Locke and husband Michael Locke, of McMurray PA, and David A. Dreyer and wife Abby Dreyer of Greencastle, PA; her great-granddaughter Margaret M. Locke of McMurray PA; great grandsons Brody D. Dreyer, and Owen P. McBrien of Greencastle PA; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia Lou Dreyer, and her siblings, Leona Cain of Berryville, VA, Harold Fritts, Melvin Fritts, Russell Fritts, and Nelson Fritts all of Charles Town, WV.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Grace United Church of Christ, 128 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle with Pastor Mark Ruzicka officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Thursday afternoon in the church.
