WOODSTOCK, Va. — Three members of the North Hagerstown defense combined to set a school record during Friday’s 28-21 win over Central (Virginia).
Donald Rivers, Carter Hillegas and Sydney Smith combined to become the first threesome to each have 14 or more tackles in a single game.
Rivers, a junior, led the way with 20 tackles (nine solo, 11 assists), while Hillegas, a sophomore, had 16 tackles (10 solo, six assists), including 3.0 tackles for losses. Smith rounded out the group with 14 tackles (eight solo, six assists) to go with a second-half fumble recovery.
The victory was the Hubs’ largest comeback, recovering from a 14-point deficit, since Oct. 18, 2019, when North came from 20 points down in the second half for a 48-47 win at Boonsboro.
South sweeps Oakdale as Yost and Socks shine
HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Tenley Yost collected eight kills, four blocks and two aces, while Aubrey Socks had 16 assists and five digs on Thursday to lead South Hagerstown to a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 sweep of Oakdale.
Jaliah Morgan had seven kills, three blocks and two aces for the Rebels, while Madison Hammond had four digs, four kills and three blocks and Morgan Carbaugh added five kills and two blocks in the win.
Shepherd women golfers 5th in Saturday tourney
HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Williamsport graduate Kaylie Brown fired an 87 to help Shepherd University women’s golf team to fifth place after the first round of the Cardinal Classic on Saturday, played at Hagerstown’s Black Rock Golf Course.
Brown is in a tie for 14th place in the tournament hosted by Catholic University. Shepherd posted a team score of 350 in the seven-team field. SUNY-Cortland carded a 263 to take the first-round lead.
Madison Burns, a Grace Academy graduate in Hagerstown, shot 103 for the Rams to sit in 38th place.
Shepherd’s Ella Mochoruk is in seventh place with an 82, followed by Addison Buckland (88, T-18th), Natalee Johnson (93, T-26th), Allison Wallace (102, 37th) and Paige Stickley (136, 41st).
The Rams play in the final round on Sunday.
Hagerstown grad in Shepherd cross country lineup
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Seander Emmerson of Hagerstown competed for Shepherd University’s men’s cross country team in the 23-team Lock Haven Invitational on Saturday.
Emmerson, a Barbara Ingram School for the Arts and Hagerstown Community College graduate, clocked a 30:44.9 time in the 8K race to finish 155th.
Logan Feeg placed 10th in 27:04.3 to lead Shepherd.
The Rams finished 20th in the 23-team field. The Pitt XC Club grabbed the men’s title.
Shepherd’s women finished 16th in a 20-team field in the 6K race, won by Slippery Rock.
Zoe Boyd led the Rams by finishing 69th with a time of 25:38.2.
