HAMPSTEAD, Md. — Manchester Valley scored a touchdown in each quarter on Thursday in a 28-7 win over North Hagerstown.
The Hubs were held scoreless until the final 48 seconds of the game. Michael Stewart broke loose for a 13-yard TD run and Chase Garver added the extra point to avert the shutout.
North (0-2) played without quarterback Colt Butts, who was injured in the opening game with Tuscarora.
Ronnie Savage took over behind center, managing to connect on one pass in nine tries.
The Hubs turned to the running game, finishing with 119 of their 125 yards of total offense.
Stewart led the way with 63 yards rushing, while Mykai Bostic added 47 yards and Savage ran for 38.
Manchester Valley scored three of their four touchdowns on short runs, but the Mavericks passed for 145 of their 183 yards of total offense.

Smithsburg’s Ryder leads Shepherd to win in split
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Emily Ryder, a Smithsburg graduate, had 11 kills to pace Shepherd University in a sweep of Pitt-Johnstown on Friday to earn a split in two matches. The Rams won 25-23, 25-14, 25-23.
The win came on the heels of Shepherd’s first loss of the season. The Rams, who won their first eight matches, lost 25-18, 25-20, 25-14 to Indiana University of Pennsylvania in their first match of the evening.
Outside hitter Amya Davis gave Shepherd a second scoring threat with eight kills against Pitt-Johnstown, while outside hitter Ada McCoy had seven.
Middle hitter/right side Sophia Ryan added six kills and seven blocks (one solo) in the win, while setter Maggie Smith contributed 30 assists, six digs, and two aces.
Davis had 12 kills to lead the Rams against Indiana (Pa.). Ryder and McCoy each had six.
Villa had a match-best 15 digs for the Rams.

Shepherd cross country teams compete at Shenandoah University race
WINCHESTER, Va. – Junior Seander Emmerson of Hagerstown led Shepherd University’s three-man contingent on Friday at the SU Twilight at Kernstown Battlefield.
Emmerson, who graduated from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts and Hagerstown Community College, finished 75th with a time of 24:39.0 in the 6K event.
He was followed by senior Connor Ireland (24:54.8, 80th) and junior Jackson Fiolek (27:43.5, 85th).
Junior Zoe Boyd finished 21st in a time of 22:21.2 to lead Shepherd women to a fourth-place finish in the nine-team field in the 5K event.
She was followed by sophomore Luella Mansheim (22:38.1, 24th), freshman Aubrey VanSickle (22:39.0, 25th), sophomore Ximena Bolaños Tellez (22:48.0, 26th) and freshman Dalija Dulaney (25:26.5, 53rd).
