Wanda Jean Fritz, 82, of Fayetteville, Pennsylvania, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 7, 2026, at 7:41 p.m. at Chambersburg Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Wanda was born at Harrisburg Hospital in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, to the late Dorothy Zelda (Frank) Dietrich and Robert Milton Ross. She attended Chambersburg Area High School and was a member of New Testament Baptist Church in Chambersburg.
As a young girl, Wanda worked at her grandparents’ restaurant, the Derbyshire in Chambersburg, where her love of cooking and baking began. She later worked as a garment maker at the J. Schoeneman Stanley Company. Wanda then worked for many years at Cherry Lane Dairy on Warm Spring Road, where she formed many lifelong friendships. She later devoted herself to caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities at South Mountain Restoration Center until her retirement in 1994.
Wanda loved summertime, sunshine, days by the pool, trips to the beach, and family picnics. holidays and special times with her family were especially dear to her, and she was happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Naturally artistic and creative, Wanda enjoyed making many different crafts, but crocheting was her passion. She lovingly created blankets, afghans, baby clothing, and other handmade items, which she generously gave to family, friends, and anyone in need. Even while hospitalized, she continued making special gifts for the staff members who cared for her.
She loved listening to music, especially gospel music, and attended many gospel concerts with her lifelong friend, Sara Peachey. Wanda was also an avid Elvis Presley fan and enjoyed his music throughout her life.
Above all, Wanda loved the Lord, and her faith was a beautiful and important part of who she was. Through prayer, encouragement, and helping others, she shared that love with everyone around her. She was always ready with an encouraging word, a helping hand, a small gift, or a reminder to keep faith and trust God. Her love for the Lord was evident in the kindness she so freely gave to others.
Wanda was preceded in death by her two brothers, Robert Milton Ross Jr. and Charles “Chuck” Adam Ross, both of Tucson, Arizona.
She is survived by her sister, Jacqueline Sikora of Green Valley, Arizona; her three children: Yvetta High (Mike Bruaw) of St. Thomas, Pennsylvania, Tony Fritz and his wife Colleen, of Danville, Pennsylvania, and Christina Fritz (John Griswold) of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; six cherished grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
