CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Carlisle man has been charged in connection with a 2024 home invasion in a Greene Township retirement community, where police say he robbed an elderly woman after she found him going through jewelry in her bedroom.
Pennsylvania State Police filed felony charges Wednesday against Michael Marko, 73, of Carlisle. The charges include robbery, burglary and criminal trespass in connection with the Oct. 25, 2024, incident at the Menno Haven retirement community.
According to charging documents, the woman told police she noticed a vehicle following her as she returned home from work. After entering her residence through a side door, she found the front door open, police said.
The woman told troopers she then saw Marko inside her bedroom, where he was allegedly rummaging through her jewelry.
A struggle followed, according to the affidavit. During the scuffle, Marko allegedly took $180 in cash that had been set aside for church tithes before leaving the residence.
The resident provided police with a description of the suspect, according to state police. Investigators also traced a vehicle connected to Marko and later showed the woman a photo lineup, in which she identified him, police said.
In addition to the felony counts, Marko is charged with misdemeanor counts of criminal trespass, stalking and theft, as well as a related summary offense.
Marko was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Kristin Nicklas and released on $25,000 unsecured bail, court records show. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15.
Charges are allegations, and Marko is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
