The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reported four Franklin County food facilities with violations during inspections conducted Aug. 24-28.
Greencastle Sunoco, 705 Buchanan Trail East in Antrim Township, was listed out of compliance after an Aug. 26 follow-up inspection.
The inspector reported that the person in charge did not demonstrate adequate food-safety knowledge. Water at the restroom hand-washing sink was not under pressure, according to the report. The facility’s hot water heater also was not producing enough hot water to supply the restroom sinks, and the hand-washing sink did not reach the required minimum temperature of 85 degrees.
Irwin House Ice Cream Shoppe, 3 S. Main St. in Mercersburg, was listed in compliance with violations following a regular inspection Aug. 27.
The interior top of a microwave, a food-contact surface, had food residue and was not clean to sight and touch, the report said. Inspectors also found that thermometers needed to ensure proper food temperatures were not available or readily accessible.
Chambersburg Country Club, 3646 Scotland Road in Greene Township, was listed in compliance with violations after a regular inspection Aug. 25.
Inspectors found a freezer door open and chicken strips, Uncrustables and southwest egg rolls held at 61 degrees rather than frozen. The food was discarded. Food residue also was observed on the interior tops of microwaves in the main kitchen and pool-area kitchen. That violation was corrected during the inspection.
St. Thomas Elementary School, 70 Schoolhouse Road in St. Thomas Township, was listed in compliance with violations after a regular inspection Aug. 25.
The inspection report cited an outdoor trash receptacle without a tight-fitting lid or cover, nonfood-contact surfaces that were not cleaned frequently enough to prevent dirt and soil buildup, and dust hanging from fan guards in the walk-in cooler.
