CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Chambersburg Borough Utilities employee was injured Friday morning in an accidental electrocution while working on utility equipment, according to the Chambersburg Fire Department.
Emergency crews were dispatched at 7:56 a.m. to the borough’s electric utility facility for an industrial accident. Responders learned that a utility employee had been electrocuted while performing work on equipment, the fire department said.
The employee was initially taken to Meritus Health in Hagerstown, Maryland, in stable condition. The borough later said the employee was receiving advanced care at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
No information was released about the employee’s identity or the nature and extent of the injuries. The employee’s family has been notified.
Borough Manager Jeffrey Stonehill said borough employees were affected by the incident.
“The entire Borough workforce is impacted when one of our employees is injured,” Stonehill said in a statement. “The services provided by Borough workers are important and dangerous work. Our thoughts and prayers are with the employee and his family. We pray for his health and recovery. We are monitoring the situation closely.”
The incident remains under investigation. Borough officials said any additional information would be released by Chambersburg Fire and EMS or Chambersburg Borough.
