The northbound Interstate 81 Welcome Center in Franklin County will close overnight Thursday for final paving work on its entrance and exit ramps, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced.
The closure is scheduled from 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21.
The Welcome Center is located north of Exit 1, Route 163/State Line. The next available rest area for northbound travelers is south of Exit 37, Route 233/Newville, in Cumberland County.
The paving is part of a $17.8 million project on northbound and southbound I-81 from the Maryland state line to Milepost 6. Work includes milling, concrete patching, asphalt resurfacing, guiderail upgrades, sign improvements and pavement markings, including work on ramps within the project area.
New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. Inc., of New Enterprise, is the project contractor. PennDOT expects all work to be completed by July 16, 2027.
PennDOT urged motorists to remain alert, follow work-zone signs, slow down and use caution near road crews.
