CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Emergency crews freed a person’s hand from a motorized meat tenderizer Thursday afternoon after the machine caught a latex glove and pulled the hand into the equipment, according to the Chambersburg Fire Department and EMS.
Firefighters and EMS were dispatched at about 3:33 p.m. to 102 S. Main St. for a person whose hand was trapped in restaurant equipment. Crews arrived within about two minutes and found the patient’s hand caught in the tenderizer.
Firefighters used a Dremel cut-off tool and hydraulic rescue spreaders to free the hand in less than seven minutes, officials said.
The patient was transported to a hospital and later taken to a local trauma center for additional treatment. The person’s condition was not released.
Emergency crews cleared the scene in about 30 minutes.
The incident caused significant traffic congestion in the area of the 100 block of South Main Street, which is also U.S. 11, as first responders worked at the scene.
