GREENCASTLE, Pa. — A Greencastle woman’s restored health comes on the heels of the publishing of her first children’s book, “Penny’s Power of Perspective.”
“It has been incredibly meaningful to see this project come to life,” said Alicia DeAngelis, who has been battling colon cancer since 2025. “My surgeries are over, and I will be returning to my job as a first-grade teacher at Fairview Elementary School in Waynesboro.”
The book, which features watercolor illustrations by Waynesboro artist Seth Holmes, is available on Amazon.
DeAngelis said everyone can enjoy the book, which was inspired by her daughter, Aubrey, as a way to help her cope with challenges that many children face.
“I began teaching her about the power of perspective,” she said. “Together, we created a simple family practice of searching for joy by identifying things that made us smile each day. That message became the heart of ‘Penny’s Power of Perspective.’
“The name for the book came from my friend, Penny, who is the most positive person. Everything about her is contagious, and I thought, ‘Let’s live like Penny and thrive off each other.’”
Her next book is going to be part of a social and emotional learning series, DeAngelis said. “The book is about how Penny learns to use positive self-talk.”
