SMITHSBURG, Md. — Organizers are seeking vendors and community organizations to participate in Smithsburg Goes Purple, an addiction-awareness and recovery event scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 29.
The family-friendly gathering will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Veterans Park, 64 W. Water St. in Smithsburg.
Smithsburg Goes Purple will connect residents with community groups, recovery organizations, health care providers and agencies offering addiction prevention, treatment and recovery services.
Guest speakers are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. The program will also include an Honor Walk recognizing people and families affected by addiction.
Free naloxone training will be available. Naloxone, commonly sold under the brand name Narcan, is a medication used to reverse an opioid overdose.
A medication take-back service will allow residents to safely dispose of unused or expired medications. Raffles, community activities and overdose awareness merchandise are also planned.
Organizers are inviting nonprofit organizations, recovery groups, health care providers, community agencies and businesses that offer beneficial services or resources to participate as vendors.
