An evening of smooth jazz and community spirit will take root in downtown Chambersburg as NETwork hosts its annual “Jazz in the Garden” event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 31 at its community garden between Redwood, Buchanan and South streets near Southgate Shopping Plaza. Organized by youth and community gardeners, the free open-house gathering will feature live jazz music, food, artwork and performances while introducing attendees to NETwork’s mission to support and equip local youth. Guests are encouraged to bring optional donations, with all proceeds benefiting the organization’s programs.
A summer night under the stars gets a family-friendly twist as Hagerstown invites the community to gather for an outdoor showing of “Lilo & Stitch.” The free event, hosted at the City Park Band Shell, 501 Virginia Ave., begins with pre-movie activities at 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, with the film starting at dusk. Open to the public, the evening encourages attendees to bring blankets or lawn chairs, though band shell seating is available, and enjoy on-site concessions.
As summer winds down with a patriotic flourish, Antrim Township will light up the night sky during its “Stars, Stripes & Summer Nights” celebration, a family-friendly America250 event set for Friday, July 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Antrim Township Community Park, 12315 Grant Shook Rd., Greencastle. Hosted by Antrim Township and the Heart of Antrim, the evening will feature a fireworks finale at dusk along with food trucks, bounce houses, obstacle courses, touch-a-truck experiences, hayrides and live entertainment, all designed to bring the community together in celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary and highlight local spirit, recreation and patriotism.
Wands at the ready, Waynesboro is set to transform into a hub of spellbinding fun as Mainstreet Waynesboro hosts its 10th annual Wizarding Weekend July 31 and Aug. 1 in downtown Waynesboro. The two-day event, which began in 2017 as a small street fair and now draws thousands, features a ticketed Harry Potter-themed pub crawl Friday and a full slate of mostly free, family-friendly activities Saturday, including a Borogon Alley market, costume parades, magic shows, trivia, craft workshops and a screening of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
Back-to-school season gets a head start in Hagerstown with a community celebration designed to equip students for success. Hub City Vineyard will host a free Back to School Kids Party and backpack giveaway from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 1, at 17805 Oak Ridge Dr., Hagerstown, offering more than 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies while supplies last. The event is open to the public and will feature additional resources for families, including food, books, clothing and free haircuts, all aimed at helping students prepare for the upcoming school year.
