Habitat for Humanity seeks donations for annual used book sale

CHAMBERSBURG, PA — Habitat for Humanity and St. John’s United Church of Christ have again partnered to host a used book sale to benefit Habitat’s housing ministry in Franklin County. The sale is sponsored by BCM Payroll Services. Online details can be found at sjucc1811.org/book-sale. From Aug. 31 – Oct. 10, materials can be donated in five ways:

1. At any of the Patriot Federal Credit Union lobby locations in Franklin County or at Colony House Furniture located at 4231 Philadelphia Ave. in Chambersburg.

2. At St. John’s United Church of Christ, Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-3 p.m., located at 1811 Lincoln Way E. in Chambersburg.

3. At the Habitat ReStore donation center, Wednesday-Saturday, normal store hours, located at 1662 Lincoln Way E. in Chambersburg.

4. In bulk by contacting Harold Collier at [email protected] or 717-263-8593. Large donations should be boxed.

5. At two drop-off events — Saturday, Sept. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Mobile Works, 2116 Lincoln Way E., Chambersburg. Donations should be taken to the rear of the building.

The group welcomes new and used books on all subjects, including paperbacks. Also welcome is artwork, DVDs, audiobooks (on CD), puzzles and board games. The organization respectfully declines textbooks, encyclopedias, musty books, cassette tapes and VHS videos.

The donation cutoff date is Oct. 10. The sale will take place at St. John’s UCC over three days on Oct 23 (Friday) from 2-8 p.m., Oct. 24 (Saturday) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Oct. 25 (Sunday) from noon-4 p.m. This is a volunteer-led initiative, and all proceeds will be used to help build the next Habitat house in Franklin County.

Habitat for Humanity of Franklin County was formed in 1994, and volunteers have constructed 63 homes in partnership with local families in Franklin County. This helps to achieve Habitat’s vision of “A world where everyone has a decent place to live” and ensures there is adequate, affordable housing stock in Franklin County for everyone to live, work, worship, and play.
