CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Chambersburg man is being held at Franklin County Jail after state police said he led troopers on a high-speed chase following a disturbance at a local animal shelter.
Brian Manuel Marte, 25, faces multiple charges including felony fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, felony flight to avoid apprehension, misdemeanor driving under the influence and nine related traffic violations. Bail was set at $150,000, which he has not posted.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers were called July 5 to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter after receiving reports of an intoxicated man causing a disturbance. Responding officers were given a description of the individual and the vehicle he was driving.
Troopers said they spotted Marte leaving the shelter parking lot at a high rate of speed. He allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection with Letterkenny Road before accelerating away as officers attempted a traffic stop using lights and sirens.
Police said Marte continued fleeing, reaching speeds exceeding 90 mph and traveling through multiple lanes over the course of about a mile. The pursuit ended when his vehicle abruptly stopped on Letterkenny Road, where he exited and was taken into custody without further incident.
During questioning, Marte reportedly told officers he had consumed one beer. However, a preliminary breath test indicated an estimated blood alcohol content of 0.273%, according to police.
Marte remains incarcerated at Franklin County Jail.
