Gettysburg plans day-long July 4th for America at 250

GETTYSBURG, Pa, — Gettysburg is no stranger to Independence Day celebrations, and this year’s event at Gettysburg Rec Park will be even bigger as the community marks America’s 250th birthday with a full day of energy, music and hometown pride, capped by an expanded fireworks display sponsored by Destination Gettysburg.

“This year’s Independence Day carries special meaning as our nation marks 250 years of freedom,” Destination Gettysburg President and CEO Karl Pietrzak said. “We’re proud to support a celebration where families can come together, enjoy time with one another, and honor the courage of those who fought for the freedoms we cherish.”

A Gettysburg Fourth is organized by the Gettysburg Area Recreation Authority. The day starts at 8 a.m. with the Adams County Farmers Market, featuring fresh local flavors, artisans and crafters. As families arrive throughout the day, they can spread across the park’s 52 acres, enjoy a variety of activities and sample the fare from 25 food and beverage trucks.

Music takes center stage in the afternoon. Local favorite The Willys kicks things off at 4 p.m., followed by Great Train Robbery at 6 p.m., and the 90-member U.S. Army Field Band and Soldiers’ Chorus takes the stage at 7:30 p.m., delivering a powerful performance that captures the spirit of the day.

The expanded fireworks display at dusk closes the evening.“A significant anniversary deserves a celebration to match,” Pietrzak said. “Fireworks on the Fourth of July are a cherished tradition for families, so Destination Gettysburg wanted to make it bigger, brighter, and more memorable than ever.”

A $5 parking donation is suggested per vehicle.
