John H. Gongloff III, 81, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026, at York Hospital. Born April 20, 1945, in Camden, NJ, he was the son of the late John H. Gongloff II and Nellie C. (Shropshire) Gongloff.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he built a dedicated career as a Systems Analyst for the federal government, where he worked for 30 years.
John had a lifelong passion for cars and car shows. He was especially proud of his Corvettes and Thunderbird and enjoyed sharing that interest with others, often DJing at local car shows. Music was also an important part of his life. Over the years, he worked as a radio DJ at several stations, known on the air as “Johnny G.” His voice could be heard on WLIK in Newport, Tennessee, KTFS in Texarkana, Texas, and WAXU in Georgetown, Kentucky.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved daughters, Nikki Thorne (Eric) of Shippensburg, PA, and Shalon Marie Snyder (Bobby) of Chambersburg, PA; his cherished grandchildren, Sierra Modzelewski (Tom) of Chambersburg, PA, Kyra “Taz” Logan of Shippensburg, Haylee Logan (Cody) of Chambersburg, PA, and Abby Thorne of Shippensburg; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Mikena Modzelewski of Chambersburg, PA, and Wesson Carter of Shippensburg, PA. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Vovcsko of Mantua, NJ, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Nyoka Gongloff; his brother, Robert Gongloff; and his sister, Christine Ruppert.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday, June 25, 2026, and from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. A graveside service with military honors will follow at Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
