Buttonwood Nature Center to host summer StoryWalk event

Buttonwood educator, Pam Rowland guided kids on a past summer StoryWalk. This summer’s event is on Sunday, July 12 at 1:30 p.m.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. — The summer season is in the spotlight during Buttonwood Nature Center’s upcoming StoryWalk® Sunday, with a colorful journey along the story trail.

The event is on Sunday, July 12, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Pine Hill Recreation Area. It is free and open to the public.

“Buttonwood’s new quarterly StoryWalk® events mark the season in a meaningful way with special activities,” said Mary Claire King, Buttonwood’s community science coordinator and the event organizer.

“During the July walk, participants will go on a color scavenger hunt, looking at all the colors in nature. After the walk, we will cool off with some popsicles—and kids should come dressed to get wet, as we play some water-based games!” King said.

The book is “Summer Color!” by Diana Murray, illustrated by Zoe Persico, celebrating the colors of summer through the adventures of two children exploring the outdoors, even during a rainstorm.

Lyrical verse and charming illustrations highlight nature’s vibrant palette, from green treetops to pink petals, making it a fun and educational experience for young children.

All families are welcome, but activities are geared for preschool and elementary age kids.
