SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — The Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce and the Shippensburg America 250 Committee will host the Great American Picnic on Saturday, June 27, at Shippensburg Memorial Park, offering a full afternoon of free, family-friendly activities.
The event is part of local efforts to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary and is supported by community sponsors and partners. Activities will begin at 2 p.m. and continue through the evening.
Free offerings include old-fashioned games from 2 to 4 p.m., horse-drawn wagon rides from 2 to 6 p.m. and a tie-dye activity hosted by Coy Public Library from 2 to 4 p.m., where participants are encouraged to bring a white item to use in the die bath. A baseball game is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m., followed by a performance by the Shippensburg Band from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Additional highlights include free popcorn available throughout the afternoon, a candy scramble at 6 p.m., and patriotic giveaways while supplies last.
A chicken barbecue dinner by Kelso’s Kickin’ Chicken will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. Meals include a half chicken, baked potato, baked beans, applesauce, dessert and a drink. Dinner tickets are $12 and organizers encourage advance purchases to help plan for attendance.
