Mr. C. David Layman, 87, of Waynesboro, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 21, 2026 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born January 15, 1939 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Herbert J. and Grace G. Layman.
He was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1956.
A lifelong farmer, he took over the family farm following his father’s retirement in 1964. He milked cows until 1994 and continued crop farming for many years afterward. In 2023, he passed the farm operation on to his son, but remained actively involved driving tractor a few weeks before his death.
Never one to sit still, he was always busy and enjoyed staying active. Since 1995, he worked as a driver for both Keystone Ford and Buchanan Automotive, driving vehicles for the dealership just a few days before his passing.
Active in the farming community, he was active with Franklin County 4-H over the years, a member of the Franklin County Fair Board and Franklin County Farm Bureau. He also was a member the Owls Club in Waynesboro.
He is survived by his wife of over 64 years, Mrs. Barbara J. (Eberly) Layman, who he married January 27, 1962; two children, Patti A. Kline and her husband, Frank and Doug A. Layman and his wife, Kim, all of Waynesboro; four grandsons, Craig Hight, Ryan Hight, Aaron Layman and Bryan Layman; five great-grandsons, Aiden, Abram, Abel, Archer and Lane; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harry K. Layman.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 26, 2026 in Green Hill Cemetery, 953 S. Potomac St., Waynesboro with Pastor John Hoffman officiating.
