Mr. James Clarkton Nemzek, 84, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026 in his home, surrounded by his family.
Born June 17, 1942 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Eric and Mary Catherine (Lloyd) Nemzek.
He was a graduate of South High School in Hagerstown with the Class of 1960.
Mr. Nemzek was a fourth generation family shoe repair man, owning and operating Nemzek’s Modern Shoe Repair. He also was employed at Mount St. Mary’s University and Lowes of Waynesboro.
He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse V.F.W. Post #1599, Chambersburg and the Soccer Referee Association. He dedicated many years to coaching soccer at the high school level. He served as the head coach for the boy’s team at Greencastle Antrim High School and also as the head coach for the girl’s team at Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Mr. Nemzek enjoyed dancing with his wife, Carol and was an avid runner, completing multiple marathons over his lifetime including the JFK 50 mile ultramarathon twice.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Mrs. Carol Leigh Nemzek who he married April 5, 1986; five children, Robert Nemzek (Karen) of Leland, NC, Scott Nemzek (Jill) of Columbia, SC, Angela Mower (Bret) of Waynesboro; James Baumgarten (Crystal) of Martinsburg, WV and Erica Nemzek-Bumbaugh (Dustin) of Mont Alto; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Mr. Nemzek was the last of his immediate family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anne Trumpower.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, June 25, 2026 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Chaplain Tim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday evening, in the funeral home.
