Totem Pole Playhouse opens Tony Award-winning musical ‘Come From Away’ this week

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. — Totem Pole Playhouse is proud to open its production of the Tony Award-winning musical “Come From Away,” running June 19 through July 4 and sponsored by F&M Trust.

Filled with hope, humor, heart and humanity, “Come From Away” tells the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded airline passengers and the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, that welcomed them in the days following Sept. 11, 2001. Often described as “the story of Sept. 12,” the musical shines a light on the extraordinary kindness, compassion and resilience that emerged during a time of uncertainty.

The production marks the first professional staging of “Come From Away” in the region, bringing one of Broadway’s most celebrated modern musicals to audiences in Central Pennsylvania and Northern Maryland.

“We are proud to bring this incredible story to our stage,” said Totem Pole Playhouse leadership. “At its heart, “Come From Away” is about community. It’s about people showing up for one another when it matters most. Audiences laugh, cry and leave feeling hopeful.”

Featuring a cast and creative team with Broadway, national tour, Off-Broadway and major regional theatre credits, the production exemplifies Totem Pole Playhouse’s commitment to bringing world-class talent to the region. The company includes performers from productions such as “The Phantom of the Opera,” “”Cats,” “Les Misérables,” “1776,” “Tina” and more, under the direction and choreography of Christine O’Grady, whose credits include Broadway’s “Hair” and Totem Pole Playhouse’s acclaimed production of Jersey Boys.”

The production also features a live band, helping bring the show’s beloved score to life each night.

For local audiences, “Come From Away” offers an opportunity to experience high-caliber professional theatre without traveling to a major metropolitan area.

“Many people think they need to drive to Baltimore, Washington or New York to see theatre of this quality,” said Totem Pole leadership. “But professional theatre is happening right here in our own backyard. It’s a full night out without the full tank of gas—a world-class theatrical experience with a small-town welcome.”

Totem Pole Playhouse continues its mission of bringing exceptional live entertainment to the community while providing audiences with an arts experience that is closer than they think.

Whether patrons are longtime theatre lovers or experiencing Totem Pole for the first time, “Come From Away” offers a powerful reminder of the best of humanity—and the connections that unite us.

Tickets are on sale now for performances through July 4.
