CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The Franklin County Visitors Bureau will bring local talent to center stage this week with the return of its A Cappella and Unplugged competition at the Capitol Theatre.
The preliminary round is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, at the historic downtown Chambersburg venue. Admission is free, and seating is available through advance reservation.
The event will feature 20 contestants selected from open mic performances held throughout the county. Performers will compete across a range of styles, including bluegrass, country, rock, folk, alternative and a cappella.
Each act will present a two-song set within a 10-minute time limit. Performances must be acoustic or a cappella, with no amplification or electronic equipment permitted. Instruments must be portable, and all content must be appropriate for general audiences.
The competition will be divided into two segments with an intermission. A panel of judges will select seven performers to advance to the final round. Audience members will also have an opportunity to vote for a People’s Choice winner, who will receive a $100 prize and advance to the finals.
Finalists will perform July 18 in downtown Chambersburg ahead of the annual “1864: Burning of Chambersburg” living history event. The overall winner will receive a $500 prize.
Organizers encourage community members to attend and support local musicians. Performers are required to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to showtime unless prior arrangements have been made.
Additional information and reservations are available through the Franklin County Visitors Bureau.
