5 things to do this weekend

Step into early summer on the trail as Buttonwood Nature Center invites the community to celebrate National Trails Day with a guided hike at the Old Forge Picnic Grounds, 8006 Old Forge Road, Waynesboro. Led by Mary Claire King, the center’s community science coordinator and naturalist, the free, family-friendly hike will explore local flora and the history of the Appalachian Trail, which passes through the Old Forge area. The event, part of the American Hiking Society’s nationwide observance, will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. June 6, and no registration is required.

Blues lovers will have plenty to celebrate as the long-awaited return of the Western Maryland Blues Fest brings live music and local flavor back to downtown Hagerstown. The festival, hosted by Hub City Brewery and Church Street Distilling Co., will take place Sunday, June 7, beginning at 11 a.m. at Hub City Brewery, 25 W. Church St., featuring 22 blues acts ranging from national headliners to regional and local talent across two stages. The event marks the first revival of the festival in five years and aims to showcase the region’s music scene while supporting local vendors, breweries, wineries and artisans. Admission starts at $40, with VIP options offering premium access and amenities.

All aboard for a summer tradition as the Norlo Park Train steams back into action, offering free rides to the community from 1 to 4 p.m. June 6 at Norlo Park, 3050 Lincoln Way East in Fayetteville. Operated by local volunteers, the miniature train marks its first run of the season and invites families and visitors of all ages to enjoy a leisurely ride through the park. While admission is free, donations are encouraged to support the volunteer-run attraction. The event is weather permitting.

Dive into the summer season with a splash as CTU Mobile Diagnostics hosts “The Summer Kickoff Pool Party,” a free community celebration designed to bring people together for an unforgettable evening. The local mobile lab phlebotomy and rapid testing service invites the public to the Ragged Edge Swim Club in Chambersburg on Saturday, June 6, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. to experience the ultimate seasonal launch. Attendees can look forward to music, games, giveaways, and exclusive refreshments from a featured Signature Dirty Soda Shop. While registration is entirely free for everyone, the event ultimately serves as an open invitation to welcome newcomers into the growing CTU family while fostering strong community connections.

Flip-flops and philanthropy will meet under the summer sky as the Humane Society of Washington County hosts its annual LuHowl fundraiser from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at Don and Mary Bowman’s historic Milestone Farm, 10702 Hopewell Road, Williamsport, Maryland. The tropical luau-themed event will feature live music and dancing, food and an open bar, a “Paws in the Sand” gemstone dig, tours of Don Bowman’s car museum, and auctions and raffles, all benefiting the organization’s spay and neuter programs. Tickets are $75 per person and must be purchased online by 5 p.m. June 5 at hswcmd.org/luhowl; no tickets will be sold at the door.
