Ocewana Baker announces re-entry into Maryland House of Delegates race

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Despite previous announcements of Ocewana Baker’s informal withdrawal from the race to represent District 2B in Maryland’s House of Delegates, Baker has re-ignited her campaign. Her name will appear on the Democratic ballot in the June 23 primary, challenging incumbent Matthew Schindler.

Why are you running for the House of Delegates?

“I am running for the House of Delegates because I believe our communities deserve a representative who will fight every day for affordable housing, better mental health services, safer neighborhoods, and greater opportunities for working families. Too many people feel ignored by government, and I want to be a strong advocate for those whose voices are not always heard. My goal is to bring practical solutions and compassionate leadership to Annapolis while ensuring that the needs of our district come first.”

What experience do you have/what is your background?

“My background is rooted in community advocacy and public service. I have spent time listening to residents, speaking out on issues affecting our communities, and working to bring attention to the challenges people face every day. These experiences have given me firsthand insight into the struggles of families dealing with housing insecurity, addiction, mental health concerns and rising costs of living. I am runnin g because I believe elected officials should be accessible, accountable and connected to the people they serve.”

What areas of public policy are you particularly passionate about?

“I am particularly passionate about:

*Affordable housing and homelessness prevention

*Mental health services and crisis prevention

*Substance abuse treatment and recovery programs

*Public safety and community-based crime prevention

*Economic opportunity and workforce development

*Protecting vulnerable residents and strengthening social services

*Improving access to healthcare”

If elected, what will be your primary focus in office?

“My primary focus will be addressing the interconnected challenges of housing affordability, mental health and substance abuse. These issues affect every aspect of community well-being. I will work to expand access to treatment, support affordable housing initiatives and ensure state resources are reaching the people who need them most. I will also focus on creating opportunities for economic growth and improving quality of life throughout the district.”

How do you plan to ease the lives of your potential constituents?

“I plan to ease the lives of constituents by being accessible, responsive and focused on results. I will advocate for policies that lower the cost of living, expand affordable housing options, improve access to healthcare and mental health services and strengthen support for individuals struggling with addicttion. I will also maintain open communication with residents and work to ensure state government is addressing the everyday concerns of working families, seniiors, young people and small business owners.”
