CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Participants in the 29th Annual Chambersburg Trout Derby hauled in plenty of trout and had plenty of fun this past weekend.
The Chambersburg Rotary Club managed the event with 454 fisherman participating.
“The Trout Derby has been an iconic spring event in Chambersburg for nearly 30 years” said Chambersburg Rotary Club President Jaqueline Fisher. “Everyone had a great time and 60% of the tagged fish were caught.”
The Derby was held from 6 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 to noon on Sunday, May 3. The event features fishing, a Friday night Fish Fry, raffles and prizes for the biggest trout.
The Conococheague Creek was stocked with 615 tagged rainbow trout ranging in size from 16 to 20 inches.
Of the 373 fish that were caught, the Big Trout Prize winners were Drew Holmes catching at 19.25 inch, 2.13 lb trout; Steve Yingling catching at 18 7/8 inch 2 lb 7 oz trout; and Mitchell Dentler catching an 18.75 inch 2 lb 6 oz trout. 1st place won $520, 2nd place $260 and 3rd place received $85.
“It was another great Spring Derby” said Fisher. “It’s great to see so many fisherman come back year after year, sharing the tradition their kids and grandkids. Community is what it’s all about.”
Proceeds from registration fees, fish sponsorships and event sponsorships help support the Chambersburg Rotary Club’s service projects, scholarships, and charitable contributions throughout the year.
