HAGERSTOWN, Md. -North Hagerstown controlled the game from the start on Thursday as Matt Mallardi and Grant Semler paced the Hubs to a 13-2 victory in 4 ½ innings over Thomas Johnson on Senior Day.
North scored in every inning, capping it off with a seven-run fourth to end the game early.
Mallardi led North’s nine-hit attack with three hits, including a double and triple, and five RBIs while scoring twice. He pitched the final two hitless, shutout innings with three strikeouts.
Semler won his start to move to 3-0, going three innings without allowing an earned run with four hits and five strikeouts. He helped his cause with a three-run homer.
Five other Hubs had one hit.
James Ortiz drove in two runs and had sacrifice fly, two stolen bases and was hit by a pitch.
Cole Bratburd doubled and drove in two runs and Chris Benford drove in a run. Blake Custer had a hit and scored two runs, while Jackson Coulter had a hit and stole a base.
North faces South Hagerstown on Friday at 6 p.m. at Meritus Park in a city showdown.

FSK 11, Smithsburg 10
UNION BRIDGE, Md. – Kaden Dietrich scored six goals but Smithsburg to edged by Francis Scott Key in its second-last game of the regular season.
Zach Linn added two goals and an assist for the Leopards, while Marquis Weakfall had a goal and an assist. Nick Roncone and Kyle Kretsinger each scored a goal for Smithsburg.
Dante Rucci collected eight saves in goal for the Leopards.

Shippensburg 11-7, Shepherd 10-4
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – First baseman Nik Rubendall hit two of Shepherd’s three second-game home runs, including a three-run blast in the eighth inning, and drove in six run in the nightcap on Thursday to help Shepherd University salvage a split against Shippensburg.
The Raiders won the opener of the PSAC East doubleheader.
Rubendall’s first homer went for two runs in the first inning to give Shepherd (27-21, 13-13) the early lead.
Shippensburg scored one in the first when Evan Schoffler singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by St. Maria Goretti graduate Will Oates.
The Rams took a 3-1 lead in the third when infielder Ryan Fluharty doubled and scored on a Rubendall sacrifice fly.
Shepherd blew the game open in the fifth with a grand slam from Wyatt Lamb for a 7-1 lead.
The Raiders score six runs in the fifth to tie the game at 7-7, keyed by a three-run homer by Ty Sherman, setting the stage for Rubendall’s heroics.
Pitcher Cooper Bryan earned the win, while Jack Robinson took the loss.
In the opener, Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning with outfielder Bodie Pullen reaching on a single and scoring on a double from Lamb.
Shippensburg (28-18, 15-11) tied the game in the bottom of the first on a solo homer by Thomas Cano-Piszel.
Shippensburg took an 8-1 lead with seven runs in the second, highlighted by a three-run homer from Sherman.
The Ram got two back in the third on a two-run double from Lamb to cut the deficit to 8-3.
The Raiders scored a pair of runs in the third to take a 10-3 lead as Cano-Piszel lofted a sacrifice fly.
Shippensburg took an 11-3 advantage in the fourth when Oates doubled and scored on a double from Kyle Ausgotharp.
Shepherd scored a run in the seventh on a solo blast from outfielder Sam Hefner.
Pullen led Shepherd with a pair of hits and two runs scored.
Cano-Piszel went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs and two RBIs to pace the Raiders.
Conner Barto earned the win for the Raiders. Gavin Miller took the loss.
