Mrs. Dessie A. (Burns) Coffman, 87, of Waynesboro, PA, passed away, Tuesday, April 28, 2026 in Transitions Healthcare, Gettysburg, PA.

Born November 14, 1938 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Maurice Burns and Helen K. (Carbaugh) Ickes. She was a lifelong resident to the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Coffman was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1956.

She and her husband, the late Harold L. Coffman, Sr., were married July 21, 1956 in Hagerstown, MD. They shared 33 years together when he passed away December 5, 1989.

Mrs. Coffman was employed as a sales clerk for several area stores including Grants, K-Mart, Thrift Drug and Murphy’s Department Store. She later did domestic work for local families including J. Martin Benchoff in Blue Ridge Summit, PA for 11 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked at the Waynesboro Day Care Center and the Waynesboro Y.M.C.A.

She was a member of Otterbein Church, Waynesboro where she served as a Sunday School Teacher for toddlers and attended services at Five Forks Brethren in Christ Church. She was also a member of the National AARP. She liked to volunteer at the senior center, Biblical Education Center, and with the Girl Scouts and Boy scouts.

Mrs. Coffman is survived by two daughters, Melinda S. Knott and her husband, Rich of Waynesboro and Diane M. McClure of Chambersburg; 7 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Harold L. Coffman Jr.; and her step-brother, Gregory S. Ickes.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 1, 2026, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Friday afternoon, in the funeral home.
