Mrs. Virginia May (Mentzer) Waybright, 86, of South Mountain, PA. passed away Monday, April 20, 2026 in Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD. She had been in failing health for a number of years.
Born April 7, 1940 in Waynesboro, PA, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur Stover Mentzer and Mildred Elizabeth Swope.
Mrs. Waybright attended Waynesboro area schools. She was a homemaker, devoting her life to taking care of her home and family. She enjoyed gardening, her family’s pets and loved family vacations to Ocean City, MD. Above all, she treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Ellen R. Fissel and her husband, Ray of South Mountain; two grandchildren, Aja Fissel and Aaron Fissel; three great-grandchildren, Litzy, Joseph and Owen Fissel; seven siblings, Judy Mentzer of Spring Grove, Bonnie Sprenkle of Biglerville, Debbie Lynch of Mt. Holly Springs, Ivan Mentzer of Rouzerville, Martha Fitz and Sonny Mentzer, both of Spring Grove and Thomas Mentzer of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews as well as a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late Martin J. Waybright who passed away June 2, 2015.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 27, 2026 in Antietam Cemetery, near Waynesboro with Pastor Greg Helman officiating.
Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
