Rebels rule bases over North 8-5, Coach Showe marks 60th win; Shepherd women’s lacrosse, men’s golf

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The South Hagerstown softball team ruled the basepaths to conquer its crosstown rival. 

The Rebels stole seven bases – including one of home plate by Kira Showe – on Wednesday for an 8-5 victory over North Hagerstown. 

The Rebels took control of the game with a five-run second inning for an early 6-1 lead before holding off the Hubs. 

South present coach Chelsea Showe with her 60th career win to tie her with former coach Sabrina McCoy for third-most wins in program history. Showe reached the milestone in the fewest games (140) in school history. It was seven games quicker than John Lynch, South’s all-time winningest coach. 

Chelsea Desmond led the Rebels by going 3-for-3, including a two-run double, and two stolen bases. Raelee Fry added a hit and two RBIs and Baylee Hancock had a hit, an RBI and drew two walks. 

Kailia Burke was the winning pitcher, allowing five runs on six hits with two walks and five strikeouts over seven innings. 

Halie Hughes led North Hagerstown with two hits and an RBI. Lella Mielke also had two hits. North scored three runs in the fifth to tighten the score to 7-5 but could get no closer. 

WOMEN’S LACROSSE 

West Chester 23, Shepherd 3 

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kendall Fortune had five goals and four assists on Wednesday to lead No. 11-ranked West Chester to a decisive PSAC East win over Shepherd University. 

The Golden Rams (12-2, 8-1) had a 37-7 advantage in shots and a 32-5 edge in shots on goal. 

Shepherd (2-10, 1-7) was led by attacker Hadley Robertson with two goals and an assist, along with four draw controls. 

Attacker Rebekah Forney added a goal, while midfielder Britney Warner added an assist.                                                                                            

MEN’S COLLEGE GOLF 

Shepherd places 10th at Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational 

INDIANA, Pa. – Campbell Koegler finished 13th by firing a two-round total of 149 to led Shepherd University to a 10th-place finish at the Cecil C. Spadafora Invitational at Indiana Country Club on Wednesday.  

The Rams combined for a team score of 625 in the two-day, 13-team tournament. West Chester took the team title with a 588, while Eli Ropietski of Pitt-Johnstown carded a 144 to take medalist honors. 

Shepherd’s effort was rounded out by South Hagerstown graduate Joey Leisinger and Trey Rios, who each tied for 53rd place with scores of 159, followed by Killian Donnelly (160, 58th), Boonsboro graduate Morgan Dehoff (164, T-67th).
