WALKERSVILLE, Md. – Zach Linn collected two goals and an assist, while goalkeeper Dant Rucci made 13 saves on Tuesday but wasn’t enough for the Smithsburg boys lacrosse team in a 9-4 loss to Walkersville.
Marquis Weakfall and Nick Roncone each added goals for the Leopards.

Shepherd’s Ruffner named Wilson/NFCA DII Pitcher of the Week
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Shepherd University pitcher Madelayne Ruffner was named Wilson/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Pitcher of the Week for games played from March 30-April 5.
Ruffner appeared in five of the Rams’ seven games last week, sporting a 3-0 record in 19 shutout innings with 40 strikeouts batters. She allowed just four hits, walked two and earned a save.
Ruffner’s crowning achievement was a no-hitter against Millersville on April 4, fanning a program’s single-game record 19 batters, to improve on her own mark of 18 set last season. The junior hurler earned her save, the sixth of her career (program career record), by striking out six in three innings of perfect relief against West Chester.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Davis, Rhodes named PSAC Winter Academic All-Conference
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Guard Brody Davis of the Shepherd men’s basketball team and guard Cassidy Rhodes of the women’s basketball team have been named to the 2025-26 PSAC Winter Academic All-Conference Teams announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Davis, a two-time CSC Academic All-District choice, boasts a 3.67 grade point average as a health promotion and exercise science major. He averaged 9.9 points and 5.5 rebounds. Davis added 35 assists, 23 steals, and 15 blocked shots. His 68 three-pointers were second on the team.
Rhodes, also a two-time CSC Academic All-District choice, boasts a 3.67 grade point average as a sports marketing major. Rhodes averaged 5.8 points and 1.9 rebounds. She added 33 assists, 23 steals, and one blocked shot. Her 36 three-pointers were second on the team.
In its inaugural year, the awards program was created to increase academic recognition for high-achieving student-athletes – which was a priority for the Conference’s membership highlighted in its most recent Strategic Plan.
In total, 121 student-athletes across all 17 PSAC institutions qualified for the Winter 2025-26 PSAC Academic All-Conference Teams.
MEN’S GOLF
Shepherd takes fifth at Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Killian Donnelly fired a two-round total of 151 and tied for 10th place to lead Shepherd University to a fifth-place finish in the 13-team Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational at Penn Oak Golf Club on Tuesday.
The Rams finished with a score of 619 in the 36-hole event, which was won by Lafayette with a 601 total. Will Hilton of West Chester took individual medalist honors with a 144.
Trey Rios and Campbell Koegler each carded a 155 and tied for 18th for the Rams. Boonsboro graduate Morgan Dehoff (158, T-32nd), South Hagerstown graduate Joey Leisinger (159, T-38th), and Ben Heidrick (170, 64th) rounded out the team for the Rams.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Shepherd takes sixth at Dr. Edwin B. Cottrell Invitational
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sara Veara fired a two-round total of 163 to tie for seventh place to lead Shepherd University to sixth place on Tuesday at the Dr. Edwin Cottrell Invitational at Penn Oak Golf Club.
The Rams posted a team score of 764 in the six-team event. West Chester took team honors with a 635. Gabi Aya New of New Haven took individual medalist honors with a 151.
Addison Buckland followed Veara with a 36-hole score of 199 to finish 29th. Williamsport graduate Kaylie Brown (200, 30th), Natalee Johnson (203, 31st), and Allison Wallace (215, 33rd) rounded out Shepherd’s team effort.
