Conococheague Institute celebrates Easter weekend with history, cooking, and cheer

MERCERSBURG —  Visitors will step back in time at the Conococheague Institute on Saturday, April 4, when the living history museum hosts a daylong Easter weekend celebration filled with colonial cooking, brewing demonstrations, and family-friendly activities.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., guests can take part in the institute’s free Revolutionary Homestead programming. Programs and Farmstead Manager Kori will prepare a traditional deer roast with asparagus soup, marking her third anniversary with the organization. Staff and visitors will have the chance to congratulate her for continuing to create engaging, hands-on historical experiences.

Adding to the festivities, Oakgrove Farm – Museum of Libations will present an 18th-century Welsh ale brewing demonstration. The team plans to show the step-by-step process of colonial beer-making and explain its historical significance. The batch will be opened during an event on May 9.

Families can look forward to meeting the institute’s farm animals — including newly named goats Juniper, Astrid, and Nova — and greeting favorites Carmella, Hawthorne, Deuce, Hannah, and Harleah. Children will enjoy scavenger hunts and activity sheets while visitors explore new exhibits and spring woodland blooms.

The free program is supported by Americana Corner’s Preserving America Partners Program, which helps foster appreciation for early American history nationwide.
