CHAMBERSBURG, Pa – Crews remain at the scene of a fatal trench collapse Thursday afternoon in Franklin County.
The Franklin Fire Company said in an update around 3 p.m. that the incident along Clover Drive in Hamilton Township has been confirmed as deadly. According to the department, a person was initially reported trapped up to their waist before the situation was declared a fatality.
Units from Station 4, Letterkenny Army Depot, West End Fire and Rescue of Shippensburg, and the Chambersburg Fire Department responded. Fire officials said crews are awaiting the completion of the investigation before beginning shoring, air monitoring, and body recovery operations.
Authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the cause of the trench collapse.
