In 1978, the family settled in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, while working as a job counselor for Telemon Corporation in Hagerstown, MD from 1979 until her retirement in 1991.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Otterbein Quilting Group in Waynesboro. She enjoyed oil painting and quilting and served as a Girl Scout Leader in Texas. She was known for her warmth and generosity, always welcoming friends and family into her home.
